ACNE + Daniel Silver

We saw a preview of the capsule collection of London based artist Daniel Silver for ACNE in some Swedish blogs last July, and now finally, next October 11th the collection will hit the shops. The 60 pieces includes men’s, women’s, accessories and shoes. The African inspired prints have all been designed by Silver. The official launch includes an exhibition at ACNE 13 Dover Street in London, together with a video shown at their website.
Daniel Silver is a sculptor, who has a variety of cultural influence in his work. He grew up in Israel, and his family (with East European roots), migrated to South Africa and Zimbabwe. His work feeds from this in-between state. These sculptures are made with recycled materials or reused objects found in Israel, and he transforms it, carving the wood and converting it in an African totem, for example.
ACNE seems to always want to go that extra-mile. While it is not the first time an artist collaborates with a brand, I like that they chose Silver. It’s not the obvious choice and it’s definately got something of zeitgeist over it: Ever increasingly ,we all hail from a bit everywhere, don’t we? More importantly, for mainstream brands that are a bit more pricey, you pay for the way their creators add value to their garments. I’m totally OK with that.
